Barcelona’s greatest player ever Lionel Messi could leave the club in the upcoming weeks, but we explore some reasons why he must stay.

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi will have showdown talks with the board and in particular, Josep Maria Bartomeu. The Argentinian international’s father and representative Jorge has arrived in the Catalan city and will meet with the club at the earliest. The club will do all it can to hold onto Messi. At least, they wouldn’t want to let go of him for free which will be a major problem in the quest to sign his replacement. Needless to say, only a proven and seasoned player will have to fill-in for the 33-year-old and therefore, expenses to bring him in can be a huge cost.

Messi on the other side believes he is no more contracted to the club and has hence refused to turn up for coronavirus testing or training. He seems to be interested in a switch to Manchester City, but considering his wage demands and the bonus fees which may be involved in the deal, only a free transfer may make it come to fruition.

With that said, here’s a look at why Messi must stay at the club.
