The Messi-Barcelona saga ready for a new chapter.

The transfer saga surrounding Lionel Messi and Barcelona could take a new turn as Jorge Messi is on his way to the Catalan capital to meet with club president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the player’s father, and agent, plans to meet Bartomeu face-to-face and try to negotiate a quick and amicable resolution that would see Messi leave the club.

Neither side have changed their minds as Barcelona’s stance continues to be that they are not interested in selling Messi and that the only way he can leave is if the buying club pays his release clause.

However, there appears to be growing division in the board room as some are starting to think that perhaps the only resolution is to sit down and negotiate Messi’s exit.

Manchester City are the favorites to land the Argentina superstar as they are one of the few clubs who can afford his wages.

The meeting between Bartomeu and Jorge Messi will go a long way in determining whether this situation gets resolved sooner rather than later of if this will need to be resolved in the courtrooms.

According to Marca, Bartomeu is likely to counter any such exit talk with a possible two-year contract extension for Messi.

With the pressure mounting after a poor season, a disastrous Champions League and all the scandals surrounding his administration, he cannot afford to lose Messi.

The last thing he wants is to be known as the president who was responsible for losing Lionel Messi. Even more so now with the other presidential candidates presenting a vote of no confidence against him and his board.

Given how the situation has unfolded and the massive amount of leaks, we should get an idea of how things went. It is important to remember that publicly, Lionel Messi has yet to speak. Everything coming out has been from his camp but not the player directly.

With some in Bartomeu’s board room coming around to the side of possibly selling Messi, it seems that a transfer to a Manchester City might be the route this takes. The meeting between the two sides is unlikely to be the last but at the very least it will give a sense on how far apart Messi and the club are.
