Lionel Messi set to part ways with Barcelona after agreeing to terms with Manchester City
Lionel Messi to part ways after 20 years with Barcelona
Lionel Messi is most likely to depart Barcelona after 20 years of service. The Argentine forward has been a long servant of the club since his arrival from Rosario. However, the management under Josep Maria Bartomeu has seen Messi’s relationship with the club deteriorate over the years.

The thumping against Bayern Munich plummeted all hopes of Messi continuing at the Camp Nou any further and ESPN now reports that the player has agreed to personal terms with Manchester City.
The contract that Messi has agreed to
The contract would see Leo Messi earn 700 million euros over a five-year deal. Messi would play the initial three seasons at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola and the final two seasons at New York City FC in the MLS.
The MLS has seen quite a few superstar players from Europe including David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Wayne Rooney. Messi would most likely join the group after three years.
However, the issue for the City Football Group is the negotiations with Barca. The Catalan club is adamant about selling Messi at 700 million euros which is his release clause.
The La Liga board has also shown their support in this matter by stating that any interested suitor would have to pay 700 million euros. The question now arises whether the City Football Group can afford to pay a figure of that size while keeping in mind the possibility of a breach in the Financial Fair Play regulations.
