Barcelona set to sign a world-class forward very soon

The summer transfer market is the busiest transfer window in which the top clubs are linked with the biggest superstars of football. For Barcelona, the Catalans have now been linked with Gini Wijnaldum of Liverpool, Memphis Depay of Lyon, and Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan.

More from Everything Barca

Ronald Koeman, the newly appointed manager of Barca, believes that his squad requires a complete rebuild. The 2019/20 season, has seen Barca field the most aged starting eleven in the club’s history which is an accomplishment that the club and board should not be proud of.

However, changes are being made. Ivan Rakitic has already been sold to his former club and next on the line is Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal. With Suarez set to depart this summer, the Catalans have stepped up their transfer market activity.

Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan is the signing that the board wants, however, Antonio Conte’s side demand 85 million euros for the Argentine forward. Barca currently faces a severely tight transfer budget and signing Martinez for 85 million euros does not seem to be favourable.

An alternative signing that the board has opted and that Ronald Koeman has pushed forward himself is Memphis Depay of Lyon. The former Manchester United striker is available for just 25 million euros and is 26-years-old.

It is expected that Depay would sign a long term contract, ideally a four-year contract with Barca. The Netherlands international himself has even spoken about the recent interest shown

"We will wait and see what happens. This Tuesday I will speak with Olympique de Lyon. I know there is interest from Barça, but I can’t say much more, mainly because I haven’t talked much with my agent either,- Depay on the interest shown by Barcelona"
