Barcelona linked with yet another former academy player.

Barcelona seem to be linked with a different player every day as reports out of Spain are linking them with a possible replacement for Nelson Semedo.

According to Sport, Barcelona are  interested in Hector Bellerin and have reportedly spoken with Arsenal’s sporting director, Maurice Edu, about a potential transfer.

Arsenal would want at least €25 million for the Spanish right-back. An amount that Barcelona currently cannot afford and could only do so if more players depart the club.

Even if that were to happen, considering the small amounts they are receiving, it still looks like a complicated transfer.

This is not the first time that Bellerin has been linked with a Barcelona move. He was linked a few seasons ago before the Catalans signed Semedo.

The former Benfica right-back holds the key in a move for Bellerin. Should Jorge Mendes find a suitor for Semedo, it would facilitate a possible transfer for the former La Masia product.

Despite the poor performance against Bayern Munich, Semedo still has several clubs interested in him. While there were reports that Barcelona were close to reaching an extension with the player, those plans have changed and are prepared to let him leave for the right offer.

Being linked with Bellerin and having tabled an offer for Manchester City’s Eric Garcia, the club could be bringing back two players who they had in their youth teams who left for one reason or another.

Perhaps this is a shift in their thinking and see that they have players coming up that can have an impact in the first team. It is an option they are going to have to consider more going further given their financial situation.

The talks with Arsenal regarding Bellerin are in their early stages. His familiarity with the Barcelona style of play and that he’s only 25 make him an interesting option. As a right-back, he could be the player they’ve been looking for in that position since the departure of Dani Alves.
