Barcelona call off their negotiations with a long term transfer target

The Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona transfer rumours has been going on for an eternity. The Argentine player has been linked since the start of the 2019/20 season and after 14 goals in the Serie A last season, the rumours have only gotten stronger.

Nonetheless, the soap opera has come to an end after the player’s agents have confirmed that their client will continue at Inter Milan for another season. Recently the player was also linked with a move to Real Madrid as well but it seems like the deal will not go through as the player will continue at the San Siro.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were eager to see Lautaro Martinez sign for Barca. In 2019, while on an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Messi stated that the signings of Martinez and Neymar could possibly help Barca win their sixth Champions League and turn the squad into a winning project.

Suarez had also admitted that Martinez was the ideal player to replace him as the Argentine forward has shown the potential to do so.

Unfortunately, Lautaro Martinez will not be joining Barca this season and the Catalans have turned their attention towards Memphis Depay instead

Barca close in on Memphis Depay

It has been reported by Fabrizio Romano that Barca has agreed to personal terms with the Dutch forward and Lyon. Depay will shortly complete his move to the Camp Nou for just 30 million euros. The 26-year-old is expected to sign a long term contract and reports suggest that a four-year deal has been agreed to.

Memphis Depay and Lautaro Martinez certainly do not share the same style of play, however, Ronald Koeman believes that he could make the most out of the former Manchester United forward.

Even if Depay fails to live up to expectations, it would not hurt as much as it did with Philippe Coutinho or Ousmane Dembele since the player will be signed for just 30 million euros. Do you think that Barca has made the correct decision by not waiting for another year for Martinez and signing Depay as an immediate replacement instead?
