Barcelona are yet to sign a world-class defender.

More from Everything Barca

Barcelona are reestablishing their 2019-2020 season squad under Ronald Koeman and have a few more weeks to sign and bring players to the Camp Nou before the summer transfer window ends. The Catalan giants have shown interest to sign many players such as Memphis Depay from Lyon and Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool. However, till now neither of the players clubs have received any official offers for their experienced players.

In addition to signing the experienced duo from Netherlands many expects suspect that the club will try to sign a defender who will help remove the pressure from Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet from the heart of Barca’s defense in the upcoming season. The Spanish giants have limited funds to spend in this transfer window and will struggle to sign world class defenders with ease. Many reports have stated that the 2019-2020 La Liga champions are expected to try and establish season long loan deals with obligation to sign these world-class defenders’ players.

David Alaba is yet to expend his contract with Bayern Munich.

The Austrian international has reached his final year of his contract with Bayern Munich and is yet to extend his contract until now. According to the Goal, David Alaba’s agents are trying to land a lucrative deal for the defender which Matthaus feels the defender shouldn’t as he might be remembered for the wrong reasons by the fans and might potentially tamper the working of the club . Although, Matthaus has also stated that if Alaba wants to leave to play alongside Lionel Messi that would be understandable in his opinion.

Barca must capitalise on the opportunity to sign David Alaba and try to lure the versatile player away from the German giants. Alaba can help replace Samuel Umtiti and Junior Firpo who are on the verge to leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.

Do you think Barcelona should try to sign Alaba from Bayern Munich?
