Ronald Koeman wants to strike off five Barcelona players from the payroll

Ronald Koeman plans to strike-off five Barcelona players from the payroll this summer. The pandemic has already vastly affected the club as the Catalans declared a loss worth 300 million euros during the 2019-20 season. The manager has been given the responsibility of getting rid of a few players that have minimal contribution and take up a decent figure from the wage roll.

The friendly game against Gimnastic saw Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann feature on the scoresheet. The French duo has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, however, Koeman has made it clear that both of them will be integral members of the squad.

However, the fixture against Gimanastic saw Ronald Koeman leave out Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal from the squad. The two South Americans have been heavily linked with a move to the Serie A this summer.

The three other players that Koeman wants out

According to the El Desmarque, Koeman has also added Rafinha Alcantara, Moussa Wague, and Matheus Fernandes as the players who do not fit in his plans.

Alcantara had a successful loan spell at Celta Vigo, however, the 27-year-old wants regular first-team football which cannot be provided at Camp Nou under Koeman. Having said that, Barca are willing to sell him for 16 million euros but are yet to receive any offer for the Spanish midfielder

Matheus Fernandes and Moussa Wague also had successful loan spells, however, the duo has failed to impress the former Netherlands national team manager. It seems like the two players would be sent out on another loan.

Meanwhile, Barca has reportedly closed in on the signing of Memphis Depay from Lyon for just 30 million euros. Depay’s arrival could mean that the club would have to force Luis Suarez out as there would be too many players for one position.
