One of the best and most expensive Barcelona players has offered himself to Manchester City, with hopes of uniting with Pep Guardiola.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi was linked with a transfer away from the club for a couple of weeks, however, he ended up changing his mind and decided to stay for at least one more year. Given that Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board of directors will not be at the helm next year, it is likely that the Argentine extends his contract with the Blaugrana.

His extension could mean the end for several other players keeping in mind monetary as well as on-field reasons, with one of them being Antoine Griezmann. The France international seems incompatible with Messi on the pitch and did not live up to the expectations in his first season at the club, scoring just nine league goals.

According to Sports Illustrated, Griezmann offered his services to Manchester City some weeks ago after there was clarity that Messi would end up staying. Pep Guardiola is in need of a striker given that Sergio Aguero is nearing the end of his career and Gabriel Jesus is not a great option to be employed regularly, at least speaking in terms of statistics.

Manchester City already spent a reasonable sum on signing Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake, so whether they can afford Antoine Griezmann remains to be seen. The Citizens are currently focused on landing Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli and despite there being slow negotiations, all parties seem optimistic about a deal falling in place soon.

Meanwhile, Luis Suarez’s future at Barcelona still looks under white lights. The Uruguay international has been linked with a move to Juventus and passed his Italian citizenship test some days ago. However, the Bianconeri now want to sign Edin Dzeko due to frustrations in talks over Suarez’s signing, thereby keeping Atletico Madrid on high alert.
