Jürgen Klopp wants to reinforce his attack with Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé.

Liverpool might not be done with their transfer business as they have now set their sights on Barcelona and Ousmane Dembélé.

After signing Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara and plugging a hole in midfield, Liverpool now shift their attention to the attack.

More from Everything Barca

According to Diario Sport, Klopp wants his team to sign Dembélé on loan. The English club has made contact with the Catalans and would be willing to pay a small fee for the loan as well as his wages.

Given Barcelona’s attempt to cut the wage bill in almost any way possible, this might be an attractive offer. However, it is believed that the club would only consider letting the Frenchman leave on a permanent deal.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are fixtures in Klopp’s attack but he believes Dembélé would not only make a good back-up but push for a starting spot and put pressure on the front three.

He appears to be an important piece of Ronald Koeman’s plans for this season but plans can change. Injuries have stunted his progression so it is still unclear what Koeman and Barcelona can expect from Dembélé this season.

Koeman does have a bloated squad with a number of options in attack. With Philippe Coutinho back. the rise of Ansu Fati and  the additions of Trincao and Pedri, Koeman is going to have a tough task in making sure everyone gets enough minutes this season so a move might be the best thing for both Dembélé and Barcelona.

At the same time, because of the potential fixture congestion, Barcelona may want to keep Dembélé as depth and because he still possesses qualities that some of the more established forwards lack.

Considering how much they spent to pry him from Borussia Dortmund, they are going to want to recuperate as much as they can and they are unlikely to do so now.

Klopp has been an admirer of Dembélé for a while now. At the moment, Liverpool are a better run club and are the favorites to win the Premier League and one of the favorites to win the Champions League. The thought of joining such a team would entice almost any player.

As it stands, Liverpool seems to only have a passive interest based on their reported offer. If they were to change their offer from a loan to a permanent deal, Barcelona would be more open to negotiations.

Dembélé arrived at Barcelona back in 2017 from Dortmund for €105 million plus add-ons. Along with Coutinho, he was seen as a replacement for the departing Neymar.
