Barcelona had a poor defensive record in the 2019-2020 season under Quique Setien and managed to concede 8 goals against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The new manager of the Catalan giants Ronald Koeman has decided to sell Nelson Semedo to Wolves for a price of around 40 million euros. This deal is set to be completed over the course of the next few days and will increase the Spanish giants funds which can be spent to sign the club’s transfer targets.
Selling Nelson Semedo will leave a void in the squad which many believe Sergio Roberto won’t be able fill in the 2020-2021 season and might potentially tamper the clubs chances to compete for the La Liga title this season.
Barca have shown interest to sign Hector Bellerin.
The Catalan giants have shown interest to sign Hector Bellerin from Arsenal to replace Nelson Semedo and remove the pressure from Sergio Roberto from overperforming in the upcoming season. The 25 year old left the Camp Nou and joined the Gunners in 2011 and has worked his way into becoming an integral part of the English side over the last few years. Even though he’s been impressive in England, he has been extremely injury prone which has tempered his growth.
Many believe Barca shouldn’t sign the Spaniard as he’s extremely injury prone. The player has also received a lot of criticism as many believe he wouldn’t be able to add defensive support to the squad in the upcoming season. Barca could alternatively try to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City instead who has not been able to to fit into the English side and has been able to play in 17 league games in the 2019-2020 season.
