Barcelona youngster may remain despite links with a loan move.

A couple of days ago Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman made headlines yet again for making a drastic move. This time it was telling future prospect Riqui Puig that he should leave the club as he is not a part of Koeman’s short term plans.

More from Everything Barca

The decision to use one of their most talented academy graduates to potentially raise money for the club had angered many fans, however, these fans can rest easy as Puig is determined to stay at Barca and fight for his place. Koeman also revealed that his intentions are to develop Puig further elsewhere as he cannot promise him regular minutes at the Nou Camp.

The 20-year-old was arguably one of the most eye-catching players in Barcelona’s torrid season previous year. Puig and Ansu Fati could go on to become two of the most bright players of the Catalan side. With proper development and enough time dedicated to these players, they can go on to become the new faces of the club after the Lionel Messi era. Thus it is understandable as to why a majority of the fans were against Koeman’s decision. His actions were also contradictory to his philosophy as he said that he would give the youth more chances over the aging player and yet he tried to get rid of one the most promising youngster.

Puig is not too concerned though as he is used to fighting for his place and Patrick Kluivert also tried to send him on loan when he was in Barca B. However, just like now he decided to stay back then as well. The player went to meet with the board along with his father and his agent. He made it clear that his intentions are to stay and fight for his place.
