Barcelona show interest in signing Chelsea defender
Barcelona are interested in signing defensive reinforcement from Chelsea.
Barcelona are reportedly monitoring the situation of Chelsea’s Antonio Rüdiger if they fail to land Manchester City‘s Eric Garcia. Ronald Koeman is reportedly in a dire need of a centre back and it looks like a big name is headed towards Nou Camp this very summer. AC Milan’s Matteo Mussachio is also a supposed target for the Catalans.

Club president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has strictly informed Koeman to follow transfer policy of selling before purchasing, given the club’s losses during the pandemic. The Dutchman is looking to rebuild the squad and he has already sold Ivan Rakitic to Sevilla and Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid, which will free up a ton of wages. With the sale of Nelson Semedo, the Blaugrana can actually move for a centre back and land their long-awaited target, Sergino Dest, from Ajax. These sales will allow a lot of money in the favour of Koeman to spend this summer.
As for Rüdiger, his time at Chelsea looks to be over. Although the centre back was pretty solid under Antonio Conte he did not look to do very well under Maurizio Sarri and Frank Lampard. Countless mishaps, poor passing and poor marking lead to the defender’s downfall in terms of trust with his respective bosses. Chelsea are reportedly listening to offers for the German centre back and according to Sport, the Catalan giants are moving in to land the defender.
The German international joined the Blues from Serie A club AS Roma under Antonio Conte. He was highly rated at the time and the fans had hopes. While the centre back is extremely composed he did exactly satisfy the fans or any of the managers.
A move away to La Liga might be a fantastic option for Antonio. The league is a little slower paced and he might have an opportunity to regain his top form under the new Barcelona manager. Blaugrana will have a solid defender to strengthen their squad this summer if this deal goes go through.
