Barcelona winger Lionel Messi heads into yet another campaign with the club, with there being more eyes than ever on his performances right now.

Lionel Messi heads into the season on the back of a big summer that saw him become the central figure of the biggest transfer speculation in recent times. The Barcelona superstar had submitted a transfer request earlier in the off-seasonal period but his quarrel with the club over a few critical terms and conditions put any potential exit off.

In an emotional interview, the 33-year-old revealed that he did indeed desire leaving the club and blasted the current authority’s way of running proceedings. Messi stated that he did not want to take Barca to court for what they had done for him and that was practically the only reason why he opted in favour of fulfilling his contract until 2021.

The player heads into his 21st year as a player for the Catalans and joins the likes of Steven Gerrard and Francesco Totti in an illustrious list of one-club men. With that said, this season will also be historic for the captain since he will now be the only remaining player from the iconic MSN trio of old, following the departure of Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid.
