Barcelona near the signing of key defensive reinforcement.
Barcelona are one of the clubs who could be having quite a busy transfer season even during the pandemic. The club has been offloading players left and right in order to raise funds to bring in new, younger players who will suit Ronald Koeman’s playstyle. Already a lot of older players have been sold off who were not a part of Koeman’s plan and with the transfer of Nelson Semedo to Wolves, the Catalans can now bring in Sergino Dest from Ajax.

The 19-year-old from The United States of America is Barca’s main target to replace Nelson Semedo. The versatile defender can play both as left-back and a right-back which is just one of the reasons as to why Koeman is pursuing the young talent. The Ajax youth academy graduate is a promising defender although his game style is quite unorthodox. Dest plays in a traditional left-back position but he plays like a wing-back as he likes to play in an advanced position from where he can help out his forwards by piling in crosses from the flanks. He is quite creative and can dribble extremely well considering he is a defender. Although he likes to go forward quite a bit, his speed allows him to run back to do his defensive duties as well.
Koeman believes that the player could be a part of the solution to their defensive problems. Semedo had a horrible season last year and in all honesty, not up to the club’s standards. The Soanish giants still need to bring in a center-back to replacing the aging Gerard Pique and Eric Garcia from Manchester City might be their top option. It looks like the club is willing to let their future be defined by these young players. Barca must give these youngsters some time to adjust as if they are able to reach their full potential, the club’s future will be very bright.
Will Dest be able to succeed at Barca?
