Lautaro Martinez’s transfer to Barcelona reaches a dead end.
Talks between Barcelona and Lautaro Martinez may come to a premature end as the Catalans have apparently just made a bid of 15 million euros upfront. The rest of the amount is to be paid via add ons and through performance-related bonuses. This is an absolutely ridiculous amount, one that Inter Milan cannot entertain and thus talks between the two clubs is as good as over.

Although Barca are going through a huge financial crisis due to various failed signings and the ongoing pandemic, a bid of just 15 million euros for a player who is valued over 100 million euros is just obscene and bizarre. The club had been interested in the Argentine striker for quite a while and even Lionel Messi himself wanted Martinez to join Barca. The striker kept Inter on hold for a prolonged period of time and apparently had already come to personal terms with the Spanish Giants before they even put in their official bid.
The Catalan side are in desperate need of a striker, especially after the dismissal of Luis Suarez. Martinez and Memphis Depay were the two main targets to replace the Uruguayan but the Argentine was preferred. This is because Martinez is a traditional striker and proven goal scorer who already has a good rapport with Messi. Depay on the other hand has experience of playing under Ronald Koeman but is not a traditional striker and prefers to play on the wings instead.
Martinez to Camp Nou was exactly what the club needed, a young, talented striker who is hungry to prove himself in the elite leagues. However, after Barcelona’s embarrassing bid, it looks as if all negotiations between the clubs will be closed and Koeman may have to pick up Depay instead.
Could Lautaro Martinez be successful at the Nou Camp?
