Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu continues to be a despised figure among the club’s legendary players and fans alike.

Ronald Koeman’s playing career is famous for making him one of the Barcelona greats but when he came in as coach, it was during the club’s poorest times. The Dutchman started from scratch but made sure that he takes the decisions which his predecessors have not taken, even if they may be hard for some players to digest on a personal level.

Barcelona got rid of the likes of Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suarez on the request of their newly appointed manager and even managed to offload Nelson Semedo and Rafinha Alcantara. However, their lack of support towards the 57-year-old comes as a surprise given the dire need of players the Catalans are in.

Koeman has publicly ripped into Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu due to his lack of transfer business, according to reports. The former Everton manager believed there was a need for a striker since Luis Suarez’s departure to Atletico Madrid and despite agreeing personal terms with Memphis Depay, no concrete deal was struck with Lyon.

Lautaro Martinez continues to be a primary target for the Catalans as well, but the Argentina international’s pursuit seems to have come to a standstill as well considering the mercurial differences between what Barcelona can offer and what Inter Milan want. With that said, the club will once again have to rely solely on Antoine Griezmann up-front.

Josep Maria Bartomeu will surely do down in the history of the club as one of the worst presidents but the least he could have done was to sign a player or two who would be impactful and bow out on a good note. For the time being, there have been no additions by deadline day and the La Liga giants must wait until at least January for a new striker.
