Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to settle it in the Champions League.

For years the great debate of football has been who is the best player in the world, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. What most people can agree upon is that Messi was naturally talented whereas Ronaldo got to his position by sheer hard work and determination. However, former Barcelona player, Rivaldo, believes that their clash in the UEFA Champions League group stage can finally settle the rivalry.

The world was in absolute delight when Juventus and Barcelona were placed in the same group. Finally, after two years, football fans can once again see the two best players in the game compete against one another. Many critics, including Rivaldo, claimed that the Argentine lost his edge after Ronaldo’s exit in 2018.

"“Some people have said Messi dropped his performance level a little bit after Ronaldo’s departure from Spain, so this is an excellent chance for both players to be at their best when they face each other.”, The former Blaugrana said in an interview with Betfair.Source Goal."

The duo has 11 Ballons d’Or between themselves. Messi is currently in the lead with six while Ronaldo is just one-off with five. Their reunion is eagerly awaited by the fans of these two great players. The rivalry has been going on for ages and now with new managers, both the players will be wishing to get the better of the other.

The match will also be a good evaluating point for the two newly appointed managers, Andrea Pirlo for Juve and Ronald Koeman for Barca. They are both legends for their respective clubs and have now returned to their former clubs to help them achieve even more silverwares.

Having said all this, there is no doubt that most eyes will be on the Catalans due to their performance last season and if Koeman is unable to perform, many critics will gain a point over the Dutch manager who is looking to reshape the club with his radical tactics.
