Defensive Chaos for Argentina and Lionel Messi

While Argentina historically are well known for their attack and midfield, their defense has always been their weakest spot. The chaos in the back remains intact as no one is aware of who will be the final back four. The only guaranteed starter that can be named is Nicolas Tagliafico who has been very successful in the left flank. Meanwhile, both Nicolas Otamendi and Juan Foyth have changed teams, with the former leaving Manchester City for Benfica and the latter moving to Villareal from Tottenham Hotspur.

German Pezzella, who was previously featured, has picked up an injury that allows Lucas Martinez Quarta to make his move for a spot in the starting eleven. Meanwhile, Gonzalo Montiel can replace Foyth in the right flank. But all these players are not the only ones looking to feature alongside Messi. Youngsters Nehuen Perez of Atletico Madrid and Facundo Medina of Lens are both looking to prove their worth on the field.

While the manager has a difficult task of choosing his final eleven, their initial two clashes in the qualifiers are reasonably easy being Ecuador and Bolivia respectively. It remains to be seen whether Messi can lead the Argentina squad to glory as at 33 years of age, he is finding it difficult to be the only one carry a team to victories.
