Lionel Messi vehemently vetoes Barca signing due to favouritism
Lionel Messi is looking to counter the favouritism at Barcelona by vetoing a move for one of the most important summer transfer targets.
Barcelona had a barren transfer window despite landing Sergino Dest from Ajax Amsterdam. Despite getting rid of the likes of Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suarez, the manager Ronald Koeman was unable to land the targets that he desired, specifically the Olympique Lyon winger Memphis Depay, who was on the wish-list since the first day.

Depay’s arrival to the Camp Nou may now be pushed until January with the Lyon chief confirming the player’s desire to leave, but no worthy offer coming in from the Catalans. The player is likely to push for an exit in the winter and Barca could once again make an approach to land the Netherlands international.
Lionel Messi however remains against the transfer, according to reports. The Argentina international believes Depay is not good enough to play for a club like Barcelona, due to his past with Manchester United. The Ligue 1 is certainly not the most difficult of leagues worldwide and therefore, the captain is not impressed with the club’s target.
Messi believes that favouritism is being brought into the club by Koeman, who was also looking to land his compatriot Gini Wijnaldum from Liverpool alongside Depay. The 33-year-old continues to be of the opinion that Lautaro Martinez will be the best player to replace the legacy left by Suarez, who has now moved to Atletico Madrid and is doing really well.
Inter Milan confirmed that Barca had not made a convincing approach to land their target in the summer and there is less chance that they will be selling a crucial first-team player in June. With Antoine Griezmann already part of the side but failing to operate as well as he needs to, Barcelona may end up fulfilling Messi’s wishes and landing Lautaro soon.
Who do you think fits better at Barca between Lautaro and Memphis?
