Barcelona had considered signing a Real Madrid superstar this summer transfer market

It is very rare that we see a player switch between Barcelona and Real Madrid during his career, however, some of the great players have been part of this switch. Players such as Luis Enrique ( former Barca coach), Ronaldo Nazario, Luis Figo, and many more. The Catalans were considering adding one more player to this list as they had reportedly shortlisted Sergio Reguilon of Real Madrid.

The current Tottenham Hotspur left-back shares the same agent with Philippe Coutinho which made it easier for Barca to communicate with the player. The Blaugrana were on the lookout for a left-back to replace Jordi Alba and believed that Reguilon had the potential in him to replace the veteran Spanish left-back.

However, reports state that the player turned down the move because of his loyalty towards Real Madrid. When asked by his agent about a potential move to Camp Nou, Reguilon stated-

"How am I going to go to Barça if I’m more of a Madridista than Santiago Bernabéu"

After refusing to sign for Barca, Reguilon agreed to sign on a permanent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, however, the Madrid fanboy will most likely return due to his buy-back clause set by Florentino Perez.

Reguilon at Barca would certainly be an upgrade over Jordi Alba and Junior Firpo. Nonetheless, Ronald Koeman still has to sign a central defender along with a left-back to solidify his defence. The winter transfer market opens in January and it rests assured that Barca will sign a few more new faces after a rather productive summer transfer market.
