Barcelona proposes a wage cut for multiple superstars.

Barcelona are going to perform a pay cut across all the members of the club, playing and no playing. The idea is to reduce the wages for a while by around 30%. This initiative was taken as the club is going through a dire financial crisis and with the added pandemic, they will not be able to produce the same amount of revenue that they always do.

The negotiations were made on Wednesday however, the players were not invited to discuss during that meeting. They are now protesting against the wage cut and they are not ready to discuss that as they feel like they have been disrespected by not being called to the meeting.

The players can take legal action as the reduction in wages was decided without their consent. The Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) has also voiced their concern against Barcelona’s decisions saying,

"“This procedure, in our opinion, suffers from serious formal defects. A negotiating table has been set up to discuss the measures to be adopted and the players are not represented as they have not been eligible in the elections of the committee.”“We believe that the club must be frank with its members and assume that their current measures will lead to a very significant loss of FC Barcelona’s assets.”Source Goal"

The Barcelona board on Wednesday announced that opinions from players would also be welcome. The decision is a big one as it will affect everyone involved with the club and they want everyone’s opinion on the wage cut. The end goal of the wage cut is to meet the season’s budget. The club will grow in the long term as meeting the set budget is very important for a club who are going through such a financial crisis.

The players should take into consideration the club’s future before taking legal actions but first and foremost they should focus on the game up ahead. El Clasico is right around the corner and they should put this discussion on hold as they prepare to host the Spanish Champions, Real Madrid.
