La Liga chief slams Barcelona president for Super League comments.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu shocked the footballing world by handing in his resignation in the past day as he voluntarily left his position vacant at the Nou Camp. The former Barca president was not exactly a fan favorite. He received constant abuse, threats, and trolls from the fan base for how he has not run the club well during his tenure in the last few years. How he had handled the Lionel Messi situation and made him feel like a prisoner at the club despite the magician giving all the possible service in the world to him.

However, on his departure, the La Liga president Javier Tebas has stated that Bartomeu shows his ‘extreme ignorance’ after confirming to participate in the newly proposed, European Super League. A league, where the top European teams would play each other on a regular basis in a league format, not in a knockout format. The La Liga president stated that Bartomeu was completely ignorant about the football industry.
"“Unfortunate Bartomeu statement on his last day about FC Barcelona joining a weak and imaginary competition which would be their ruin,” Tebas said.Source Goal"
Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned on Tuesday along with all of his other board members given the constant pressure from the fans. The fans wanted this whole board system out after a horrific 2019/20 season which saw Barca end up trophyless for the first time in many years.
The European Super League is a league that will see top teams from France, England, Germany, Spain, and Italy come together and take part in a league format. This may put other small clubs out of business. The main goal of this competition is to reportedly put the UEFA Champions League out of its current significance.
Bartomeu confirmed that Barca fully supports and intends to take part in this super European league. However, the new board will have to approve this process, while the Super League in itself is only proposed and yet to be confirmed by FIFA.
Was Tebas right to slam Bartomeu?
