Barcelona left with only two healthy center-backs following Araujo injury.

Barcelona’s Champions League win against Juventus came at a cost after center-back Ronald Araujo was forced off to start the second-half because of an injury.

The club released an official statement confirming the player’s injury, revealing he suffered a right hamstring injury. They did not give a timetable for his return.

According to Sport, however, the injury Araujo suffered typically takes at least two weeks to heal. Which means that the player is set to miss the matches against Alaves and Real Betis in the league as well as the Champions League match against Dinamo Kyiv.

This is the Uruguayan’s first season as a member of the first team and is third choice behind Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet.

It’s a significant blow to Barcelona who now only have two fully fit defenders who Ronald Koeman can rely on.

With the injury, questions are once again being asked of Barcelona’s transfer dealings before the start of the season. Particularly of sending French center-back Jean-Clair Todibo on loan.

However, it’s not all bad news. Goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen took part in the team’s training session as well as Samuel Umtiti. Ter Stegen has been out the entire season after undergoing knee surgery.

Umtiti has been out since the last season restarted. His return would be an added addition but given his injury history, it is not known how much the club count on him. He was one of the players Ronald Koeman identified as expendable.

In any respect, Araujo could be back after the international break. Frenkie de Jong played center-back against Juventus but, for now, the Catalans are going to have to rely on only Pique and Lenglet for the next three matches.
