The attacker became Benfica’s biggest and most expensive signing after he arrived this year from Almeira. The Portuguese club paid a club record of 24 million euros for the forward as he became the most expensive signing in the club’s history.
21-year-old Darwin Nunez has a total of four goals so far for the Portuguese side. He opened his tally for Benfica with a hat-trick on the opening matchday in the UEFA Europa League competition. However, he’s had only four goals in all competitions so far.
The Benfica manager was asked about Darwin Nunez and a move to Camp Nou after the coach faced defeat against Boavista. Benfica lost by three goals to nil over the weekend to the 14th place side in the Primera Liga, and it came as an upset because it was not at all expected of a club competing for the first spot. The manager was asked about Nunez’s recent claims and rumours for a move to the Nou Camp and it was completely shut down by Jorge Jesus.
The youngster is heavily linked to the Spanish giants, however, Jesus has stated that he has a lot to learn and the club is yet to learn about the player’s true potential. The club’s desire remains that he will be coached further to continue his development at Benfica. The coach stated that youngster will first have to develop completely before any big move away to another club is discussed.
Darwin is being tipped as a huge footballer with a ton of potential. Reportedly, Benfica will be selling him for a price which will be higher to that the 120 million pounds that Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have paid for Joao Felix. Benfica will not be easy and big clubs will be needing to spend big money if they are to get hold of the 21-year-old.
Should Barca look to secure Darwin?
