Barcelona advised to take special care of 33-year-old Lionel Messi

Former Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic has been speaking about the club recently. The Croatian has stated that Blaugrana needs to be taking good care of Lionel Messi while he is still at the Nou Camp.

The Croatian has stated that Messi is different from others, that he is special and he does not require the same treatment. According to Ivan Rakitic, Lionel Messi deserves special treatment at the club while he is still there.

Recently, former Barcelona manager Quique Setien has stated that the Argentine international is very hard to manage. He stated that he cannot be critical of the Argentine as his stature at the Nou Camp is extremely high. The former Real Betis manager stated that he himself is no one to change or criticize Messi.

Rakitic is reportedly very fond of his former teammate, as the Croatian and the Argentine apparently had a good relationship during their time together at the Nou Camp. The midfielder wants the club to treat the 33-year old in a good way, especially after the horrific massacre in the summer transfer window where Leo wanted to leave the club.

The Argentine was extremely frustrated with his career at Barcelona. He made it clear that he wanted to leave, however, he decided to stay in order to not cause a huge legal battle as the previous board was not going to let him go so easily. He stated that he will move away once his contract is over in summer 2021. Hence, Rakitic believes that the Catalan side have the opportunity to treat their legend in a special way in order to convince him to consider his future at the club for a longer period of time. Messi might be finally satisfied at Barca given that former president Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned voluntarily last week, but his future remains uncertain.
