Former Netherlands coach, Ronald Koeman has been having a hard time this season, particularly after a good start.

Barcelona has seen an erratic patch of form this season and are already 8 points behind the league leaders in Real Madrid. The Blaugrana is currently sitting on the 12th position. They had a brilliant chance to bag three points against Alaves but instead ended up drawing the fixture. As per the Telegraph, Ronald Koeman isn’t exactly happy with his team’s performance.

Barcelona had as many as 25 shots at the end of the game but only managed to breach Alaves’ goal-line once. Moreover, they failed to capitalise on their advantage of having an extra man. Jota Ramallo was sent off on the 62nd minute and Griezmann ended up scoring on the very next minute.

The Blaugrana failed to capitalise on their man advantage for nearly 30 minutes and this very fact can help ascertain that Alaves indeed deserved that one point. The momentum was with Barcelona following their Champions League group stage triumph before their home fixture against Real Madrid. Yet, they ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline, being down 3-1.

There are some major changes to be made tactically and some new players need to be brought in. There isn’t enough competition in the club and one cannot see anyone other than Messi create enough chances.

After the game, Koeman was quick to be critical about his team’s attack. He felt that the Blaugrana had the right attitude but lacked efficiency in front of the goal. For him though, it is a matter of concern and thr Blaugrana cannot concede such a massive lead to Real Madrid this early in the season; not after surrendering the title to their bitter rivals last season.

This January, one can only hope that Barcelona manage to bring in Eric Garcia and either of Darwin Nunez or Memphis Depay to bolster their back and frontline respectively.
