Barcelona and their managerial woes continue as Ronald Koeman has failed to challenge for the La Liga title, so far.

It is true that he hasn’t had much time at the club and we might even end up witnessing a remarkable turnaround me but some of the minds in the Presidential race are already thinking of replacing him. As per Express, former Barcelona president, Joan Laporta is planning to bring in Jürgen Klopp from Liverpool.

More from FC Barcelona News

Klopp has had a remarkable four years at Liverpool, guiding them to a UEFA Champions League and a Premier League win in succession. He built the current Liverpool team with some mind-boggling transfers; the ones that no one thought would win themselves a UCL title.

Klopp is certainly a very passionate manager and is probably the dream manager for any club president. However, there is a catch to Laporta’s desire.

The 53-year-old’s contract at the Anfield is set to run out in 2024 following which he intends to take an year off football. He also acclaimed that if he doesn’t miss football in that one year period, it is highly improbable that he will return. Therefore one can safely assume that Laporta’s desire is a long-shot.

Joan Laporta was the president of the Blaugrana from 2003 to 2010, a period in which the club scaled great heights. Moreover, Messi made his debut in 2004, under Laporta’s reign.

Former Barcelona manager in Pep Guardiola was heavily linked to a return to Barcelona but the Manchester City boss has ruled out the possibility of a return, indicating that his time at the Camp Nou is “over”.

It is clear that things need to change at Barcelona and new players need to be brought in. The intensity of the players on the field needs to go up and the dependency on Messi, down. It is highly unlikely that the 33-year-old would stay after the completion of his contract and it is a clear indication that a rebuild from the scratch is the need of the hour. The coming Winter window presents with an opportunity for the club to plan for the future and one can only hope that they get it right this time.

Barcelona are currently 12th on the La Liga points table and are already 8 points behind Real Madrid. They have however, played 1 game less than the Los Blancos.
