Barcelona boss is in need of a proper striker to succeed.
Barcelona’s new manager Ronald Koeman had wanted a new number 9 since his arrival at the Nou Camp. However, he failed to land a proper centre forward due to a lot of financial problems that the club was facing. They had to offload a lot of players and club legend Luis Suarez was also involved in that group of sales.

Koeman lost a proper number 9 in Suarez. He stated multiple times that he had no intention of keeping the Uruguayan in his plans for his rebuild at the Nou Camp. However, the Dutchman was heavily interested in bringing in a younger and active centre forward that would fit his play style.
The former Everton manager was interested in bringing in Olympique Lyon’s Memphis Depay and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez to the Nou Camp this summer but due to a bunch of financial circumstances, he couldn’t land his specific targets.
Lyon’s president also reduced the price for Memphis Depay after the player was heavily linked with a move to the Nou Camp and was pushing for the transfer himself. Even after all of their sales, the Blaugrana failed to match the price that was asked for the Dutch centre forward.
Koeman has recently stated that he has all the interest in the world to bring in a proper number 9 in this upcoming January transfer window. Multiple reports have also suggested that Lyon’s Depay has also been waiting for the January transfer window as he will be pushing for a move to the home of the Catalan giants during that period of time. Barcelona are also heavily interested in landing Manchester City’s Eric Garcia to add another option of centre back in their defensive line up. He has been also reportedly pushing for a January transfer window move as the 19-year-old has no intention of continuing his career under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
