Ronald Koeman of Barcelona proves to be another blind follower of Lionel Messi after his recent comments about the team and the performance so far
As the winter transfer market comes closer the rumors of Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona keep multiplying. Messi has been part of the first team since 2004 and since then has gone on to become the world’s best player, however, one day or the other he would have to leave. It seems like this summer is when the Catalans will have to move on and continue to prosper without the 33-year-old.

At some point, every football club loses its best player either through a transfer, injury, or retirement and it is an inevitable phenomenon that cannot be avoided. However, at Camp Nou, it seems like the club and the staff have no hope without Leo Messi’s presence.
In fact, Ronald Koeman’s latest statement towards the Catalan media itself proves that. Instead of stating that the club will continue to prosper with or without Messi, the Dutch manager stated
"Barça has been, is, and will be a better team with Messi than without Messi- Ronald Koeman"
This statement in itself proves how dependent a club is on a single player. Such a situation or environment is definitely not the best for a sporting institution.
In fact, Koeman could have stated that the younger talents such as Pedri, Ansu Fati, or the superstars such as Antoine Griemzann have the ability to bring success when Messi steps down. This could have improved the morale and confidence of the other players.
Although the statement is true that the club is better with Lionel Messi on the field, however, it is time for Barca to move on and have an identity of their own. For far too long has this historic club been reliant on Messi and this is a perfect opportunity to rebuild the club rather than being dependent on a single player. What do you reckon, will Barca succeed without Messi or will the club go through a crisis for a while?
