Barcelona has advanced in their negotiations over a contract renewal with their best player of the season, however, there is one issue left to be resolved.

Reports state that Barcelona has advanced in their negotiations with Ansu Fati. The 18-year-old forward has so far been the standout player for Ronald Koeman and has in fact been the team’s best player this season despite his young age.

Ansu Fati has four goals in seven La Liga appearances this season before incurring a major injury that is set to keep him out for the next couple of months. Nonetheless, the club continues its negotiations with Jorge Mendes and Fati over a possible renewal. The Spanish forward is on a contract until the summer of 2022 and is eager on renewing terms with the club.

Under Josep Maria Bartomeu, Fati’s contract was extended until 2022 and his release clause was set at 400 million euros, however, the former president wanted to extend the player’s contract until 2024 which could not be executed as the president resigned earlier this season.

Reports state that Ansu Fati’s contract will be extended once the elections are complete and there is a new president and board. Meanwhile, Jorge Mendes, the agent of Ansu Fati, has imposed a mammoth demand on the club.

The Catalans already in debt and are currently battling a financial crisis. Mendes believes that his client, Ansu Fati, deserves to inherit the salary of Leo Messi next summer when the player leaves or a figure close to that amount.

It is certainly an absurd demand from the Portuguese agent, however, it also understandable given the fact that agents earn a certain percentage from their client’s wages and Ansu Fati has the potential to become one of the world’s best as well thus making him a lucrative target.

What is your opinion on the current situation? Should the club renew terms with Ansu Fati until 2024 and should they meet Jorge Mendes’s demands?
