Barcelona are planning to prolong Eric Garcia’s arrival to Camp Nou.
At long last, it seems that the deal for Eric Garcia has been completed, unofficially of course. The 19-year-old who moved away from his homeland in order to get more playtime in England has realized that his move was in fact an error and now wishes to go back to Barcelona. The Spanish giants tried to bring him back this summer but were unable to meet Manchester City’s demands. It now seems as if he will be going home regardless of previous negotiations as his contract will end at the end of the season.

Barca are in dire need of a new center-back, Gerard Pique is near the end of his professional career and Samuel Umtiti has not been the same ever since his injury. He is yet to recover and the Spanish giants can no longer wait for him. Thus they decided to bring in Garcia. He is a young Spanish defender who graduated from La Masia but decided to move away in order to get more playing time. Now, however, he wants to return to Spain. City tried their level best to keep the youngster in England but were unable to convince him.
Pep Guardiola himself praised the player’s development and wanted him to stay but it seems as if he is tired of waiting any longer and he will most certainly be used extensively in the Catalan side. City refused Barcelona’s offer of 10 million euros plus eight million in add ons but were unable to persuade a new contract to the Spanish defender. Garcia is now willing to move to his former club at the beginning of the new season free of cost after the expiration of his contract and Barca are not going to push for his arrival in January after City remains adamant about demanding 15 million euros for the player.
All in all this could have been a blessing in disguise for Barcelona. Even though they missed out on Garcia this season, they might get him for free next season. This will make sure that his transfer does not take a toll on their financial situation. Also the good relationship between Barça sporting director Ramon Planes and Garcia’s agent Ivan de la Peña has led them to a mutual understanding and agreement for the players 2021-22 contract.
Should Barca wait until next season to sign a new defender?
