Barcelona could look to sign short-term defensive solutions.

Barcelona has been a mess at the back in recent years, and with a lack of a spectacular frontline that can outscore any team, their flaws at the back are really visible. After their 8-2 thrashing last season, Barca fans expected Ronald Koeman to go for a new centre-back to replace the aging centre-back, Gerard Pique, but the Dutch manager instead opted to go for a new wing-back.

Now after last night’s match, Pique could be out for the rest of the season and they can no longer wait to bring Eric Garcia. They must bring in a reinforcement next transfer window as a short-term solution, as only Clement Lenglet remains as a proper centre-back for the club.

Youngster Ronald Araujo is also out injured and is expected to make his return in early December. Meanwhile, Samuel Umtiti is still out with a knee injury, and his return is still unknown. The French international is said to be leaving this January transfer window as the club look to bring in funds to help with their financial crisis.

Lenglet is likely to be paired with Frenkie de Jong in the back with Koeman looking to make the midfielder a defender for the remaining matches until the return of Araujo. Sergi Roberto could have been another option, but the Spaniard was also injured alongside Pique, leaving no options for their already struggling defense. Barca will make a defensive signing their biggest priority in January.

Here are five players who could be a temporary solution to the club’s defensive problems:
