Barcelona, despite potentially seeing their greatest player leave the club sooner than later have decided to refrain from exploring the transfer market.

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi will not be renewing his stay at the club beyond June 2021 in all likelihood and could leave the club as a free agent. Given how good he has been for the club, the Blaugrana must replace him with someone who can match his calibre and the name of Neymar was talked about.

Paris Saint-Germain and the player are close to agreeing a new deal which will see his salary rise even further due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Ligue 1 superstar has reportedly settled in well at the Parc des Princes, plus, with Kylian Mbappe most leaving for Real Madrid in the coming months, Neymar will have all the limelight upon him.

Nevertheless, it had been mentioned that the player still dreams about a move to his former club. Unfortunately for him, neither of the presidential candidates for the club are even thinking about landing him, Cuatro reports. The club is in a crippled situation financially, and all the potential directorial members believe it’s best to look at other areas of the squad.

For the time being, the Catalans have very good forwards in the shape of two World Cup winners, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele, whereas Philippe Coutinho has also shown his good aspects under Ronald Koeman. Needless to say, Ansu Fati is a generational talent and may well be the in-house replacement for Messi at the Camp Nou.

Considering how much of a financial impact Neymar’s arrival would have on the club, it is a good thing that they are not trying to sign the Brazilian. Defensive reinforcements should now be given priority and it looks like that will be one of the top agendas, even if Messi leaves. It’ll be exciting to see a new-look Barca.
