The former Manchester United defender had incurred a partial injury to his ACL along with a serious sprain in his knee. It was expected that the Spanish centre-back would be out for several months, however, the option of undergoing surgery could shorten the time being sidelined.

Reports now confirm that the vice-captain has gone against the notion of opting for surgery and has decided to opt for conservative treatment to cure his grade 3 sprain. This potential decision made by Pique could prove to be detrimental to the club.

Currently, Barca has no experienced centre-back apart from Clement Lenglet as Ronald Araujo and Samuel Umtiti are still recovering from their injuries. The potential attempt to sign a defender in the winter transfer market looks bleak as well given the fact that the club is currently going through a severe financial crisis.

Pique’s decision could put the Catalans into panic frenzy mode which always ends futile. However, there is still time for the 33-year-old to reconsider his decision and opt for surgery to enhance his recovery time. The faster Pique returns to the starting eleven of Ronald Koeman, the better for the club and the fans.
