Defense

When healthy, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is one of the first names on the team sheet list. He’s fully recuperated from the injury that kept him out the first few months of the season so expect him to be the starting goalkeeper.

After Ter Stegen, the rest of the players that make up the Barcelona backline gets tricky.

Sergiño Dest played against Osasuna but was a doubt the day before after picking up an injury in training. He did play and should start again. He’s done a good job taking over for Sergi Roberto who himself is sideline with an injury.

At centre-back, Barça B player Oscar Mingueza will play his third consecutive game as a starter. He has taken over for Gerard Pique as Ronald Araujo has yet to recuperate from an injury he suffered against Juventus. Mingueza has played well since being called-up. He did have a few errors against Osasuna and received a talking to by Koeman. But by and large he’s met expectations and is unreasonable not to expect him to make a couple of mistakes.

Continuing with the theme of injuries, Clement Lenglet, is out after picking up an ankle injury in their last match. With his absence, Barcelona are out of first team center-backs. Frenkie de Jong, who has been used there in emergencies, may be called upon to fulfill that role once again.

Junior Firpo will likely round out the backline with Jordi Alba getting a rest. He played against Kyiv and was moved to center-back when Alba came into the match. It’s a bit of a shopping window opportunity as he is one of the players Barcelona will look to move on during the winter transfer window.
