The French center-back could make his Barcelona return soon.

Barcelona center-back Samuel Umtiti took part in training with Barça B as he looks to recover from his knee injury that has kept him out of action since the restart last season.

His potential return would signify a huge boost to the Catalans who are going through a bit of a crisis following the injuries to Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto.

More from Everything Barca

According to Mundo Deporitvo, Umtiti played in the training match between Barça B and Juvenil A at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. The next step in the recovery process is to see how the player feels following the match.

The previous times where Umtiti has returned, he’s played a match and the knee problems seem to come back.

The decision on whether he will be available for the Catalans’ next match against Cadiz will depend on if he gets the medical green light and if Ronald Koeman takes him into account.

The Frenchman has yet to play a game under Koeman and with relatively few updates regarding his status, it was up in the air if he would ever play another game for Barcelona.

He was one of the players the manager had signed off on that the club could sell. Umtiti ranks high on the list of wage earners and Barca could not afford to pay him and have him on the sidelines. It was one of the reasons why very few teams were in for the defender during the summer.

The rumors of a possible exit have not quieted down either with rumors of Everton possibly preparing a bid for him come January.  As it stands, however, he is still a Barça player and his impending return would be a welcome sight.
