Lionel Messi’s choice of full-back obtainable in January

Argentine left-back, Nicolas Tagliafico, is currently one of Europe’s hottest properties in the left-back position. The left-back currently plays for AFC Ajax and has a clause where he can leave in the January Transfer Window of 2021 if there are any suitable offers from other clubs. Manchester City and Leicester City are the two clubs that are reportedly in a race to land the signature of the smooth Argentine. Lionel Messi rates the full-back very highly and would definitely look forward to linking up with him in the Copa America and the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

More from Everything Barca

The 28-year-old was valued at 23 million in the summer transfer window of 2020 but he failed to move to the Premier League. The Argentine was most likely to join Frank Lampard at Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the 2020 summer transfer window but the Premier League giants went with Ben Chilwell instead.

Tagliafico will reportedly sign a new contract with the Dutch giants this week but according to many top-tier sources, he will have an unspoken agreement with the club given that he chooses to depart in January. Manchester City are still on the market for a solid left-back as Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko do not look solid at the position. They are also playing Joao Cancelo in the left-back position and the Portuguese international has impressed Pep Guardiola immensely with his performances at that position.

Cancelo turned out to be a huge signing for the Citizens as the Portuguese player was termed as a flop signing when he was signed from Juventus in exchange for Danilo Luiz. The 26-year-old has proved to be immense for the Centurions this season at left-back. However, Manchester City will be going for the Argentine left-back in January to solidify their current defensive setup which looks promising after the arrival of Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake. Aymeric Laporte and John Stones have also returned from their uncomfortable and regular injuries and they look pretty solid.

With Lionel Messi’s stamp of approval, his fellow compatriot, Tagliafico may be convinced to move to the Camp Nou in January.
