Maradona’s eldest son, Maradona Jr reportedly wants his father’s iconic number 10 jersey to be completely rested in honor of his father. This would mean that each and every club that the Napoli legend played for and even the Argentina national team would have to entirely retire the number 10 jersey in order to pay homage to Diego Maradona.
"“In the teams that he [Maradona] played for, I believe so, including Barcelona. Without a doubt.”Source ESPN"
The world-class footballer played for many clubs such as Newell’s, Napoli, Barcelona, Sevilla, Boca Juniors, etc. The Italian side, Napoli, had previously retired the number 10 jersey in the honor of Maradona but that was not because of his death, it was because of his contribution to the club. The Argentine icon scored a total amount of 115 goals for Napoli during his time there and helped them win two Serie A titles, the only ones in their history. Hence, Maradona is considered a god in the streets of Naples.
However, the other clubs such as Barcelona, Sevilla, Boca Juniors, Newell’s, did not retire the number 10 jersey. Neither did the Argentina national team. Hence, Diego’s son is of the opinion that whichever club that his father played for including the national team, should retire the number in order to pay homage to one of football’s greatest. A few years ago the Argentine national team was blocked from retiring the number 10 jersey and Lionel Messi still wears it to date.
Should Barca consider retiring the no.10 jersey?
