Meanwhile, the Barca no. 10 has himself revealed to have a desire to leave the Nou Camp to allow youngsters to develop and prepare the club for the future. However, some critics claim that the Argentine is moving away for monetary gains but the Presidential candidate, Joan Laporta, suggests that it is not the money that Messi wants, but a competitive team.
The Argentine captain is a born winner, ever since his early days, one could see his disappointment if they failed to win games. Messi is an emotional person although he is not very outspoken. So to see his beloved club surrender their throne to arch-rivals, Real Madrid, and to see other clubs win the UEFA Champions League year after year, Messi felt like his club was betraying him.
During the nerve-racking Messi transfer drama this year, the 33-year-old revealed the reason he wanted to move away from his home. The player said that he was fed up with the way the board was managing the club. The board just threw a lot of money at the club hoping for things to fix themselves. However, things do not work that way, and even after spending over a billion euros in transfers, the last time they managed to win the Champions League was back in 2015.
Messi deserves a club that will be fighting for the Champions League and domestic league every year. He is very emotional and even quit the national team once because he believed that he let his country down. This time his club is letting him down and it might be enough for the magician to actually leave.
The first work of the new president will be to persuade Messi into staying. Joan Laporta said that he had a talk with Messi in October and he could feel the disappointment that the Argentine was feeling.
"“What I want is to give him back his happiness. It’s not just a question of money, you have to create a competitive team. Leo has been cheated and that is a big loss. He’s a winner and can’t stand to see other teams lift the Champions League.”Source Goal"
Barcelona has made a very poor start to the season and their title chances were further damaged after today’s match against Cadiz. A 2-1 loss means that the Catalans sit in 7th position after 10 games, twelve points behind league leaders, Atletico Madrid.
Do you agree with Laporta?
