Barcelona’s potential January transfers desired by Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona have had major problems since the Dutchman arrived at the Nou Camp in the summer transfer window of 2020. Financial problems were a starter for the Blaugranas as the condition was so bad that they had to sell major players like Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal, Nelson Semedo, and Arthur Melo in order to fund other transfers and to free up wages for current players.

However, financial problems are not the only thing Koeman’s Barcelona have faced this season. They have had a horror of a start to the season as they currently sit at 7th position with 14 points in La Liga, despite having played the same number of games as Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid (10 games). Their recent 2-1 loss to Cadiz has made Koeman sure of the fact that he will be needing some transfers in order to make the difference.

Another problem the Catalans have faced is injuries. Gerard Pique is out for several months alongside Samuel Umtiti leaving Clement Lenglet as the only first-team center-back who is fit. The Spanish youngster Ansu Fati too is out for 3 months and more due to a knee injury. Ousmane Dembele has succumbed to another injury as the player is now sidelined with a hamstring, however, he may not be out for very long but the Frenchman getting constantly injured has become a major problem.

Koeman will definitely need to make some signings in the January transfer window as the Spanish Giants eye Manchester City’s Eric Garcia, Atletico Madrid defender Felipe Augusto and Olympic Lyon’s Memphis Depay. The Dutchman wanted the former Manchester United forward at the Nou Camp in the summer transfer window of 2020 itself. However, due to major financial issues, Barcelona were unable to make any major signings which have hit them a lot this season with all the injuries.
