Barcelona lost again in the La Liga this season as the Catalans fell weak to Cadiz who have beaten both Real Madrid and Barcelona this season. Lionel Messi was seen struggling to convert the 10+ attempts at goal. But one of his worst stat of the day was him losing the ball 29 times which is the highest number of times he has ever done that in his entire career.
Barcelona have had a horror start to the season as this is their worst start in the league in recent history. The Blaugrana have not had a worse start like this in 22 years after their defeat to Cadiz. Former Manchester City man Alvaro Negredo scored the winner capitalizing on a major mistake by Clement Lenglet and Marc-Andre ter Stegen at the hour mark of the game.
The reason for the club’s struggles are beyond Messi with every other player struggling to convert the many chances the team creates in a course of a match. Ansu Fati was one of the only attackers who was able to cause trouble in the attacking half besides Messi. The trio of Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, and Martin Braithwaite have had their moments but for the most part have been disappointing.
Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City remain the favorites to land the signature of the Argentine if he does end up leaving the club in the summer transfer window of 2020 after he had handed in a transfer request. Meanwhile, Ronald Koeman needs to ensure that the Argentine maestro enjoys his football at Camp Nou or the next president will have a tough time convincing him to stay.
With Messi and co. preparing for the Champions League clash against Juventus, it remains to be seen if the Argentine can start converting his attempts at goal.
How many goals will Messi score against Juventus?
