Barcelona youngster Riqui Puig deserves regular playtime

Riqui Puig has made a strong argument for becoming a Barcelona regular.

Ronald Koeman took on Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus for the second time and for the second group fixture in this year’s UEFA Champions League as the former Italian International’s side triumphed heavily at the Nou Camp. This time, Cristiano Ronaldo featured on the Juventus side, unlike last time when he was out injured with the coronavirus and failed to participate. The Portuguese scored a brace with two penalties on his return to the Nou Camp as he became the highest-scoring individual to have the most goals against Barcelona.

The Barca coach has come under heavy criticism, with the Dressing room now questioning his tactics. It is no surprise that youngster Riqui Puig is not a huge favourite of Koeman. Since the Dutchman’s arrival, it was made clear that the youngster is not a huge part of his plans. The former Everton manager had absolutely no intention to include the young 19-year-old in his plans at the Nou Camp. However, he has come on a few times as a substitute this season.

Arguably, Puig was the best midfielder or even overall the best player from the Barcelona side that lost 3-0 to Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus. Ronaldo scored a brace, while McKennie scored a belter of a volley.

The Italians went home absolutely satisfied after landing their revenge for the first leg defeat at Turin where Koeman’s side triumphed.

Riqui is a fantastic talent as the Barcelona training facility La Masia has delivered yet again with the 19-year-old. Outstanding passing to unreal vision on the pitch already the youngster displays more maturity than most youngsters in European football. His off the ball movement and space creating abilities are similar to that of Andres Iniesta who is one of the best footballers in the history of the game.

Koeman, however, does not have any intention of including Puig in his plans. This may be a waste of talent as the youngster is stacked with pure quality and a move to another club should be a valid decision if he wants to kick off a career which includes regular playtime as this is the age to develop and become the player he is going to be.

Should Koeman make Puig a regular at Camp Nou?
