Dilemma over Memphis Depay continues at Barcelona.

Since the former Everton manager, Ronald Koeman, arrived at the Nou Camp, one of his top priorities was to land Olympic Lyon’s Memphis Depay. After the sale of club legend Luis Suarez, Barcelona failed to land a proper replacement for the Uruguayan international.

More from Everything Barca

Ronald Koeman had his heart set on Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum and Olympic Lyon’s Memphis Depay but due to financial problems at the Nou Camp he failed to make moves in the transfer window to improve his squad. Instead, Barca ended up selling a lot of their core players in the summer transfer window of 2020.

As for Depay, he was ready to join the La Liga giants as he had already reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Spanish side. According to some sources, the former Manchester United forward was heavily disheartened that the Catalans could not come through and make a deal happen which would see the Dutchman at the Nou Camp over the summer in 2020.

Even after the move failed, reports suggested that the player is willing to be patient and that he will happily join his former international boss Koeman in the Nou Camp in an instant, in the upcoming January transfer window.

As of now, the rumors don’t look very solid as the reports now state that the Olympic Lyon are unwilling to sell Depay. The Catalan giants could really use the former Manchester United winger as both Ansu Fati and and Ousmane Dembele are currently out with injuries. Martin Braithwaite is currently playing as Barcelona’s number 9 but apparently, he is not considered an ideal replacement for Suarez, even though he ended up landing the legend’s jersey number.

The arrival of the January transfer window of 2021 will definitely throw some light into this matter and then it can be clear if the La Liga giants are really going to move in for the Dutch International or not.
