Barcelona presidential candidate wants PSG star to replace Jordi Alba
Jordi Alba’s replacement at Barcelona could come from PSG.
The next Barcelona president and the board will have some work cut out for them. They will be heading a team which is currently in a transitional phase and is also looking quite dry financially. They must bring in some fresh legs for Ronald Koeman who has been struggling with his team. However, they must also maintain the budget as they would want to avoid bankruptcy.

Presidential candidate, Victor Font, has recognized a possible replacement of the aging Jordi Alba. Alba who is 31 years of age now is slowly coming towards the end of his professional career. It is not great that he is Barcelona’s first-choice left-back at the moment as ideally, they would prefer someone much younger.
Junior Firpo did start playing a lot more last season but he has not been able to impress the new coach and has only made six appearances and one start this season. Alba just offers more speed, experience, and stability to the team which Firpo fails to do. Firpo often loses his man as he is too focused on helping the forwards. This is just one of the few reasons as to why Alba has been chosen over him all the time this season.
Tribuna reports that Font, however, suggests that Paris Saint-Germain’s Juan Bernat would be the best replacement for the aging left-back. Bernat joined the French giants from Bayern Munich in 2018 and has since then gone on to make 76 appearances for PSG. The Spaniard also managed to get 10 assists in that time frame, which may not look like much but his attacking contributions help out the team’s overall performance.
Bernat is currently injured with a ligament injury and is expected to be back by March 2021. Barcelona have had their fair share of defenders with injury, most prominently Samuel Umtiti. They do not need another injury-prone player however, that is whom the presidential candidate has in mind and we must wait and find out if he will try to go for the player in the summer transfer window or not.
Should Barca sign Bernat as Alba’s replacement?
