The Messi transfer saga is famous worldwide and shook the world back in August. The fact that the captain wanted to leave his boyhood club was concerning for Barcelona however, ex-president, Josep Maria Bartomeu managed to keep him at the club for one more year. Lionel Messi is in his final year of the contract and if he leaves for free next season, it will be a huge loss for the Catalans.
French Champions, PSG, were one of the clubs who were tipped to sign the unhappy Argentine the first time when the news broke out. The links were recently made stronger when Neymar publicly admitted about wanting to play with Messi next year. He even said that he would give up his position in order to get one of his best friends to the French side.
These bold statements during a time of such confusion made PSG the number one destination for the six times Ballon d’Or winner and speculations were once again in the media every day. This constant media pressure and speculations are not healthy for the forward at the moment as he is struggling with his form this season and his team is struggling in general.
Thus, Messi’s father decided to end the controversy once and for all in an Instagram post. In an Instagram post, over a screenshot of the transfer rumor, Jorge captioned,
"“False. Yet another invention, I’ve been in Argentina since September. #Fakenews.”Source Goal"
This along with Messi’s representatives confirming that no negotiations had started yet, confirms that all of this is still just speculations and rumors and the player is one hundred percent focused on the team and trying to win trophies with his team.
All we can do is contemplate and predict his future but the decision lies in his hands. The first thing that the new president of Barcelona will need to do is persuade Messi into staying as should he leave, it will be a financial mess and a failure on the club’s part. We must wait and see what happens after 24th January, when the new president is elected.
Will Messi stay or leave Barca for PSG?
