ex-Barcelona director reveals that the club passed on Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland could have been in Barcelona reveals Javier Bordas.
According to former Barcelona director, Javier Bordas, Barcelona had the opportunity to sign greats such as Kylian Mbappe, Courtois, and Erling Haaland but instead, the now-resigned president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, went for failed signings such as Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, and Claudio Bravo.

In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the former director revealed how he could have brought in three world-class players, only to be rejected by the president as he chose others over the players he had recommended.
Erling Haaland who has been making waves in the Bundesliga currently is already on his way to become a world-class striker. He is one of the most lethal strikers in all of Europe and everyone would like to add him to their team. Borussia Dortmund has noticed this and put a 100 million euros tag on him to keep away intruders.
The Catalans could have had him for a lot less a few years ago when Bordas recommended him to the board. However, the President did not agree with Bordas. He told the Spanish news outlet,
“They told me he was not the right type of player for Barca, I understand that [former president, Josep Maria] Bartomeu pays attention to the technical side. The truth is that players like these could have come, but then you don’t know what performance they are going to give.”

This lack of research on the former President’s part, lost Barcelona a number of top quality players. Bordas claimed that he even had the Alvaro Morata deal sealed however, due to their lack of efficiency, Atletico Madrid swiftly stole him from under their noses.
Although old talks can no longer help the club, it is interesting to see the potential that the club had and the road that they took. It is fair to say that the board of directors really messed up the club’s squad as well as the finances and it is no surprise that the entire board resigned earlier this year.
Should Barca have signed Haaland when they had the chance?
