Pele’s message for Lionel Messi after equaling record

Pele responds to his one-club goals record being matched by Lionel Messi.

In last night’s match against Valencia, Lionel Messi ended up equalling a historic record.

Although the match ended in a 2-2 draw, Messi has matched footballing god, Pele’s legendary record of most number of goals scored in a single club. Pele even sent a heartwarming message to Messi via an Instagram post, congratulating him for this historical feat.

Pele, who is regarded as the best footballer of all time alongside Diego Maradona held the record for scoring the most number of goals for a single club. He held this record for a very long time and people thought it was impossible to break but then the little magician stepped onto the pitch. Messi in his 16 years of professional footballing career with Barcelona has managed to match the legendary record.

Pele managed this incredible feat with Brazilian club, Santos, where he reached the incredible number of 643 goals scored. Mess last night equaled that record and thus in order to congratulate him, Pele wrote a long post on Instagram,

"“When your heart overflows with love, it is difficult to change your path. Like you, I know what it’s like to love wearing the same shirt every day. Like you, I know that there is nothing better than the place we feel at home. Congratulations on your historic record, Lionel. But above all, congratulations on your beautiful career at Barcelona. Stories like ours, of loving the same club for so long, unfortunately will be increasingly rare in football. I admire you very much, @leomessi.”Source Pele’s Instagram"

It is truly a legendary achievement and Pele’s message holds a lot of emotions and sentiment. Footballers these days have a lot more choices and according to the Brazilian king, the sense of loyalty is missing. Messi reminded Pele of himself and thus thought that he must congratulate him on the extraordinary feat, from one legend to another.
