Victor Font and Joan Laporta are the favorites to win the upcoming elections. On the 24th of January, we will finally know who will head the great club and more importantly, what philosophy will the new president follow. One thing is clear, both the candidates want to bring in Xavi as a manager or as a member of the board.
Font in particular has been very public about expressing his admiration for the midfielder and has not hidden the fact that he will try to make him the head coach should he get elected. However, in a recent interview with Mundo Deportivo, Xavi said that he was not picking sides and that he will stay neutral throughout the election process.
"“I’ve had a close relationship with Font in the last five years where we’ve spoken a lot about the future of Barcelona and the sporting needs of the club.”“With Laporta, who’s only appeared [in the race] quite recently, I’m very much in tune. He’s been the best president I’ve had at Barcelona.”“I don’t want to be pro any candidate, I have a friendship with the both of them and I wish them both well, I love them very much. “Source Football Espana"
It is fairly likely that the Barcelona legend will return to the club after the elections. He has numerous achievements and was recently even added to the French Football’s Ballon d’Or dream team. His return to the club would be a monumental success and even Lionel Messi wants him back at the club.
We must wait and see how things unfold, however, it remains clear that Xavi will return to the club one day or the other.
