While the elections are due to be held on the 24th of January provided there are no setbacks caused by the pandemic, Carles Tusquets will be running the basics of the club.
There have been many speculations that once the new president is instated, that he will be replacing Ronald Koeman as the head coach of Barcelona. Presidential candidates, Victor Font and Joan Laporta have both been vocal about bringing in their choice of manager if they are elected and with Koeman’s recent performances, it is not hard to see why they want a change.
Tusquets on the other hand has recently come out stating that he thinks that the Dutch manager is doing a fine job. In an interview with Spanish Media channel, Cuatro, the interim president said,
"“I am not in charge of anyone, Koeman’s doing a good job, he has my support. I have been to eat with him occasionally and he seems optimistic.”Source Sport"
While it is agreeable that Koeman should be given more time to build his project, the team right now is nowhere near what they are capable of. A star-studded team like that should be at the top of the table, not eight points below the leaders.
Many of the Presidential candidates want to bring in Barcelona legend, Xavi Hernandez as the new manager and he is even backed by Lionel Messi. Thus, Koeman has to really change things around the club or his reign as the Catalan’s manager might be shorter than expected.
Should Koeman remain as the coach after the presidential election?
